Arts in Regeneration, in partnership with Adult Learning Service, recently held an open day at Newsham Drive Adult Education Centre, exploring ideas, themes, hopes and aspirations for a series of public art installations for Newsham Park to be sited in June 2008.
Arts in Regeneration have been commissioned to design a Superlambanana that will fit into the natural surroundings of Newsham park for a city wide ‘parade’ of Superlambananas as part of the 2008 European Capital of Culture celebrations. Up to 100 customised Superlambananas will be dotted around the city later this year.
There was also an opportunity for the public to make creatures out of clay that might live in the park, as part of a project to create a sculpture trail in the park later this year. Great food was on offer and a great day was had by all.
